• National Road transport Hall of Fame. 1 Norris Bell Drive, Alice Springs, NT. www.roadtransporthall.com National Road Transport Hall of Fame, the Old Ghan Train Railway Museum and the magnificent Kenworth Dealer Truck Museum collectively make up the most comprehensive land transport museum in the southern hemisphere. • York Motor Museum. Avon Terrace, York. WA 6302.  One of the finest private collections of Veteran, Vintage, Classic and Racing Cars in Australia. Open every day, except public holidays.

• National Motor Museum. Shannon St. Birdwood SA 5234 (50 kms from Adelaide)   E-mail: motor@history.sa.gov.au   The National Motor Museum at Birdwood houses Australia's most important collection of vintage, veteran and classic motorcars and motor cycles - more than 300. Open every day except Christmas Day.

• Powerhouse Motorcycle Museum. Armidale Rd, New England Highway. Tamworth. NSW. 2340 Located on site at the Quality Hotel Powerhouse. www.powerhousemotorcyclemuseum.com.au   Heaven for Bike Enthusiasts, with motorcycles from the 50s to the 80s meticulously restored and some limited edition current models. Ducati, Triumph, Honda and many more.

• The National Motorcycle Museum. 33 Clarkson St, Nabiac. NSW  www.nationalmotorcyclemuseum.com.au The Museum is situated in Nabiac, on the mid-north coast of NSW. Nabiac is on the Pacific Highway 140 kilometres north of Newcastle & 28 kms south of Taree.  Over 700 Motorcycles on display, worth a look if you are riding past. Open every day, except Christmas Day.

• Australian Motorcycle Museum. 3 Butlers Road, Haigslea, QLD. www.australianmotorcyclemuseum.com.au 50 kms west of Brisbane, on the Warrego Highway, on route to. The purpose built building houses an excellent collection of 200+ motorcycles, ranging from 1905 through to current and covering a wide selection of models and brands from around the world. Open 7 days a week.

• Fink Desert Race. www.finkedesertrace.com.au The Tattersalls Finke Desert Race is Australia's premier off-road racing event that attracts bike, car and buggy entries from around Australia and overseas. It is a multi-terrain, two-day race through desert country from Alice Springs to the small Aputula (Finke) Community and is reputed to be one of the most difficult off-road races in one of the most remote places in the world. The Finke, as the event is commonly known, is run along sections of the Old Ghan Railway service track, adjacent to the railway line, along a winding corrugated track, which snakes through typical outback terrain of red dirt, sand, spinifex, mulga and desert oaks. Usually held in early June.

• The Australasian Safari. www.australasiansafari.com.au   Western Australia usually plays host to this exciting event, frequently referred to as Australia’s version of ‘Paris to Dakar’, showcasing the incredibly diverse landscape the state has to offer. Providing Australasian Safari competitors and entrants with an unrivalled backdrop this off-road rally course will rank amongst the most spectacular in the world. Usually run over 7 days in late September.

• Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame. Longreach is the largest town in Queensland's central west and is located right on the Tropic of Capricorn at the junction of the Landsborough Highway and the Thomson Developmental Road. It is approximately 700kms west of Rockhampton along the Capricorn Highway. Open every day except Christmas Day. www.outbackheritage.com.au    Inside, the Centre's five themed galleries proudly display the history behind some of Australia's greatest and bravest explorers, stock workers, pastoralist, and Aborigines. The exhibits comprising an eclectic mix of objects, images, touch screens, audio visual presentations and open displays, allowing visitors to interpret the outback story in their own unique way.

• Qantas Founders Museum. Right in the centre of Queensland, located on the Tropic of Capricorn approximately 700km west of Rockhampton and 1200km north-west of Brisbane, Longreach is situated on the Landsborough Highway. www.qfom.com.au Open every day, except Christmas Day. Bookings essential. Qantas Founders Museum is the only place in the world where you can tour two fully equipped passenger jet aircraft. The ex-Qantas 747-200 VH-EBQ is permanently located at the Museum and is open for guided tours including a unique wing walk experience. Also a fully restored Boeing 707, VH-XBA, the very first passenger jet registered in Australia and Qantas first jet aircraft.
